Port Columbus Taxiway Bridge

                                                               The single, 191-foot clear span was designed to carry a Group V aircraft

                                                               weighing 900,000 lbs.  The bridge superstructure consists of a post-tensioned,

                                                                integral concrete frame with a slim mid-span deoth of only 5-feet.

 

                                                                This bridge is a fine example of the context sensitive design.  the complex design

                                                                combined with the fine aesthetics provided a visually appealing structure.

                                                              The rehabilitation of these twin, 23-span, 2048-foot long, widened

                                                              prestressed I-girder bridges beat the project construction schedule

                                                              and was awarded an ODOT QC/QA incentive.

                                                                                            This 5-span, 550-foot long, variable depth, spliced

                                                                                            pre/post-tensioned concrete girders reflect the appearance

                                                                                            of a concrete arch. It’s ornate aesthetic detail blend well

                                                                                     At a cost of $237 million, the 8800-foot long bridge’s centerpiece is its

                                                                                     1525-foot long cable-stayed main span that features a 440-foot tall,

                                                                                     glass-faced pylon. It  carries over 68,000 vehicles per day along I-280 and

Ramp C Flyover Bridge (I-75/I-70 Interchange)

        The 2,376' curved steel girder bridge is now the longest in ODOT District 7.  Its sweeping alignment is accented by the images of F-16's    

        on each of its 19 piers.

 

Perry Street Bridge over the Maumee River

Engineer – HNTB Ohio, Inc.

        Having the appearance of a concrete arch, this 7-span, variable depth, spliced pretensioned/post-tensioned concrete bulb T-girder bridge

        was constructed in an astonishing 9 months.

The 1828 3-span stone arch was in need of a very complex rehabilitation.  This project involved utilization of simple details & methods that made the work much less expensive than originally anticipated.  The end product is a beautifully restored 177-year old structure.

This is a single span, steel girder replacement bridge with unique, inexpensive aesthetic enhancements that reflect the flavor of the community and helped to make the project a success.

The graceful appearance and constructability of the decorative rail along with the overall shortening of this 1031' long viaduct caught the eyes of our judges to select it for this award.


2004 Winners  ---  The Ohio Turnpike Bridges over the Cuyahoga River Valley

 

Ohio Turnpike Bridges over the Cuyahoga River Valley

The new bridges are each 2,660 feet in length and are 175 feet above the Cuyahoga River Valley.  The $51 million dollar bridges each consists of a 900-foot-long segmentally constructed precast, post-tensioned concrete girder unit flanked by two precast, prestressed concrete girder units.  This is the first known application of spliced prestressed girders in the state of Ohio.  The innovative superstructure  design compliments this landmark's claim as being the longest and highest on the Ohio Turnpike System.

The new bridge is a 890’ long, seven span, haunched, horizontally curved steel plate girder structure.  The bridge opened a year ahead of schedule and $2 million under budget. 

Rogers Road Bridge over the Chagrin River

 

Owners – Lake County Engineer and Cuyahoga County Engineer

Contractor – Great Lakes Construction

Engineer – CT Consultants

The new bridge is a 252’ long, two span, horizontally curved (34 degrees) steel plate girder structure.  The bridge opened four months ahead of schedule.
