LRFD Seminar

ABCD Northeast Ohio is sponsoring a seminar featuring a general overview of structural steel and prestressed concrete design using LRFD. The speakers will be Tim Keller, the State Bridge Engineer, and Dr. Richard Miller and Dr. James Swanson, Professors of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of Cincinnati. The seminar will be held on Wednesday, November 9, at the Quality Inn and Suites of Richfield. Registration will be $90 for ABCD members and $110 for non-members. Click here for more information. ABCD Scholarship

ABCD Northeast Ohio is sponsoring a scholarship again this year. The scholarship consists of a one-time $1000 award to a student member of ABCD currently pursuing a degree in Civil Engineering. Candidates must be a sophomore or higher currently enrolled in an Ohio university. Students interested in applying for the scholarship who are not currently members of ABCD may submit a membership application concurrently with their scholarship application. ABCD members who know eligible students are urged to encourage them to apply.

Membership Renewals

Invoices for membership dues will be mailed to all members and corporate sponsors soon. All fees should be paid by the end of December to maintain your status as an active member. The February meeting will be the last chance to pay the reduced member price. Following that meeting, all members whose dues are not up to date will have to pay the non-member price.

All members who pay their dues prior to the end of December will be eligible for a prize drawing at the January meeting. The winner of that drawing will receive a $40 gift certificate to the Longhorn Steakhouse.

Upcoming Meetings

November – Al Leonard of Great Lakes Construction will be speaking about the rehabilitation of the Thomas A. Edison Bridge over Sandusky Bay. The meeting will be held at Harry’s Steak House on Tuesday, November 15. Click here for more information.

December – The December meeting will be the annual Christmas Party. This will be a joint meeting with ITE, ASHE, and ASCE. The meeting will be on Wednesday, December 14 at the Great Lakes Brewery Tasting Room.

January – Mike Kubek of ODOT District 12, Jack Noble of ODOT District 4, and Valerie Kilmer of ODOT District 3 will be doing a forecasting night.
