Join ABCD Northeast Ohio for a presentation by Professor Bill Yu, Department Chair at Case Western Reserve University, about Recent Advances in Smart Bridge Technologies for Resilient and Sustainable Infrastructure. This meeting will qualify for 1.0 PDH credit.
Speaker: Xiong (Bill) Yu, Ph.D., P.E., Fellow ASCE
Dr. Yu is the Opal J. and Richard A. Vanderhoof Professor and Chair of the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Case Western Reserve University (CWRU). Dr. Yu is also actively engaged with the industry and has recently been named as the Civil Engineer of the Year by ASCE Cleveland.
Dr. Yu's research focuses on addressing emerging engineering and societal issues associated with civil infrastructure systems. The research activities are pursued with a strong interdisciplinary perspective with the aim to integrate engineering principles with impactful socioeconomic implications. His research integrates civil engineering principles with emerging engineering skills (such as sensing, smart materials, Internet of Things, machine learning/AI, bioinspiration) to build smart and sustainable bridge and infrastructure. He leads a pioneering research program aiming to advance the state of art and practice with the design, operation, and decision on infrastructure. Dr. Yu is dedicated to education and student mentorship and has achieved a strong track record to foster student success.
In his presentation, Dr Yu will cover a wide range of topics on smart bridge technologies including innovative materials and sensors for resilience and sustainable bridges, new coating techniques, scour sensing systems, and deicing.
